Malvern Spring Gardening Show
The Brief
This show garden was designed to be part of a contemporary beachside property. A strong formal framework of stone filled gabions and recycled composite decking provides a backdrop for the planting. Decking constructed from recycled composite material, is a good sized entertaining area, with low maintenance, integral benches provide seating, and a stainless steel rill and water blade gives sound and movement. The plants were chosen to ensure colour and interest throughout the year, not just during the show.
Key materials
Composite decking and cladding and flint filled gabions are the main components in the design, with stainless steel used for the rill. Flint of differing sizes is also used as a mulch.
Stand out plants
Blue oat geass, Helictotrichon and Carex testacea add to the costal theme. There is a strong structure of evergreen plants, cytissus, euphorbia and sedums to ensure interest throughout the year. Amelanchier, birch and cercis add height whilst providing good seasonal interest. Equisetums give a strong structure in the pool.
Our expectations were absolutely surpassed. We are so glad we chose Outdoor Living Space.
